Bluff Catcher

word type: noun

  1. A poker hand that can "only beat a bluff."

Common Bluff Catchers

Often, a Bluff Catcher is a medium strength hand such as one pair; other times it is a hand that once had great strength of its own, but, because of the board and/or the action in the hand, has become so weak that it can only beat a bluff. For instance, if you hold a set of sixes on a board of 876-k-T board facing an allin bet, you have a hand that was once a monster and is now just a bluff catcher.
