word type: acronym
- HORSE is an acronym for a mixed format poker game that incorporates five commonly played styles of limit poker: Hold 'Em, O8 (Omaha eight-or-better split), Razz, Stud, and Stud HiLo ("e"ight or better to complete the acronym). The games switch after a predetermined time limit or number of hands.
The popularity and notoriety of HORSE has increased drastically since the birth of the $50,000 HORSE tournament at the World Series of Poker in 2006. High profile players such as Daniel Negreanu put pressure on Series organizers to create an event that would incorporate games other than big bet hold 'em, and there has been renewed interest in mixed games in the time since.
