Results Oriented Thinking

word type: poker slang

  1. A method of analyzing a poker play based on the outcome as opposed to the merits of the play.

What it Is

Results oriented thinking is a weak form of poker analysis, which eschews logical deduction in favor of evaluating a play simply based on the outcome.

E.g.

Let's say a poker player folds a hand like AK-suited after investing more than half his stack. He sees the hand play out and, it turns out, that his hand would have won; thus he declares his fold to be bad because of the result, when in fact it was a bad play to begin with, since it's almost never correct to invest a high percentage of your stack and then fold.
