Stud is often played Hi/Lo, meaning at the end of the hand the pot is split between the best high hand and the best low hand. Usually, Hi/Lo (aka "stud eight") is played with an "eight or better" qualifier, meaning the low hand must consist of five unpaired cards with a maximum high value of eight (87654 would be the worst low possible but an 8-high straight).

A less common version, known as "Stud Hi/Lo Regular," does not require a qualifier.
