Overs

word type: noun

  1. An option to play higher stakes than the game being played.
  2. Colloquial way of saying "overcards."

How it Works

Usually, overs are played in poker clubs or home games in which two or more players in a game want to play for higher stakes than those being offered.

For instance, the game might be $30/60 limit hold 'em, and two players in the game might want to play $40/80. Those two players will usually receive an "overs" token and, anytime they are the only players remaining in the pot, the stakes will switch to $40/80.
