Suggestion Bet

word type: noun

  1. A bet made of a specific size meant to give observant players a hint as to the player's exact holding.

Example

A player would make a suggestion bet of $55 if he had pocket 5's or $32 if his hole cards were 3-2.

Why Would Anyone Do This?

For fun, particularly in a home game with friends.

Mixing It Up

If people have caught on, one way to keep them on their toes would be to make a suggestion bet of what you might have. For example, if the board is 3-4-5-7-K, and you planned on betting $20, you could make a suggestion bet of $26 to indicate that you might have a six to complete a straight. Announcing, "Suggestion bet," is also acceptable in this situation.
