Telegraph

word type: poker slang

  1. A type of tell in poker in which a player gives an indication of what his action will be before it his turn to act.

Telegraph Road

As opposed to a tell, which is usually a subtle physical sign of a player's hand strength, a telegraph is usually a more obvious indicator of the action a player will take before it his turn.

Typical Telegraphs

If there is a bet of 300 and you notice a player has 300 in his hand when there are still three players left to act, this is a solid indicator that he is going to call. Another common telegraph involves noticing a player who appears eager to muck.
