Minraise

word type: poker slang

  1. A bet that is the minimum allowable amount.

What's the Sig?

Minraises stand out in games of big bet poker, where it is standard and strategically sound to raise an amount greater than the original bet, such as a pot-size raise.

For Example

In a game of heads-up pot-limit omaha (PLO) with $25/50 blinds, the button might open the action with a bet of $150. It would be highly unusual and strategically questionable for the big blind to re-raise the minimum amount of $100 and make it $250.

Exceptions

There are, of course, instances when minraising is an expert move to employ, but this is dependent on situations and requires an understand of advanced strategy.
