Rules
Most rules around boxed cards say that the card is removed from the hand. It is not used as a burn card, just ignored altogether.
Example
Imagine a dealer holding a deck of cards, all face down. Except one of those cards is not face down when the dealer fans out the cards, it is face up. This face up card is known as a boxed card.
