Steal

1. A term used when a player raises with a hand that is normally not considered a raising hand, done with position, for the sole purpose of winning the blinds and/or antes.

When to Steal

In a poker game, whether it be a tournament or ring game, steals are universally done in late position or when a game is short-handed. The objective is to take down an uncontested pot that consists of the blinds and/or antes. This is considered an essential skill for a poker player to possess.
