  1. When play is suspended in a tournament to allow players to rest, eat or go to the bathroom.
  2. To quit playing poker for a predetermined amount of time.

Example

An common example of a break is during a multi-table tournament either online or live. At a specific time, usually after the first hour to hour and a half, the tournament will go on break. Online breaks last five minutes while live tournament breaks are traditionally 15 minutes.
