Isolate

word type: verb

  1. To raise or re-raise in a poker hand, usually for the purpose of getting heads-up vs. one opponent.

Example of Isolation Play

Player 1 makes a standard raise, player 2 pushes allin with a short-stack. When it is your turn to act with AK, you opt to re-raise allin yourself, thereby "isolating" the allin player and discouraging the original raiser from playing along.
