Re-Raise

word type: poker slang

  1. A raise that occurs in relation to an initial raise, not merely in reaction to a single bet.

Proper Nomenclature

Sometimes an amateur or non-detail-oriented poker player will describe a hand in the following way:

"So, the big blind bets, I decide to re-raise with my open-ended draw."

What this person meant to say is simply that he raised the big blind's bet.

An Actual Re-Raise

The big blind bets, a player in middle position raises. Now, any other increase in the betting amount would constitute a re-raise.
