Family Affair

Barry Shulman, the current publisher and CEO, purchased the magazine in 1998. His son Jeff Shulman is the president.

Player of the Year

The CardPlayer Player of the Year honor is generally recognized as the most prestigious prize for a live poker tournament player. The primary competing prize include the BLUFF Magazine Player of the Year. Traditionally, both prizes are rewarded with a cover story in the magazine sometime early in the following year.

CardPlayer also awards an Online Player of the Year award but this award is generally seen as being less prestigious than being ranked on the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings. PocketFives' rankings were established in early 2005 and have largely become the defacto standard for ranking the best and most active online tournament players in the world.
