Clear The Rail

word type: who knows

  1. "Clear the Rail" is heard as a request from poker players towards floor management when a player is annoyed or displeased by the proximity of surrounding spectators and lingerers.

Example

If a player's table is close to the rail and he misplays a hand or two, he might feel the eyes of the audience on him and ask the floor manager to 'clear the rail'. In other words, he's sending a big GTFO to the railbirds.

Bad Form

Unless the railbirds are being rowdy, loud, or distracting, it's generally thought to be pretty bad form if a player asks the floor to get rid of the rail. Poker is hard enough to watch live as it is, but if avid and respectful fans want to be as close to the action as possible, players should welcome the attention.
