Poker Players Alliance

1. An American nonprofit interest group formed for the purpose of giving poker players one voice to advocate players' rights.

Organization Background

Founded in 2005 the group unsuccessfully lobbied against the UIGEA in 2006. Currently headquartered in Washington, DC, Executive Director John Pappas and Chairman Alfonse D'Amato are making headway to support bills drafted by Barney Frank which would allow regulated online poker to be a legal business activity in the United States. The organization currently boasts over 750,000 members.

Mission Statement

As summarized from the Poker Players Alliance website, the group's mission statement is to establish favorable laws that provide poker players with a secure, safe and regulated place to play. Through education and awareness the PPA will establish that poker is not gambling but a game of skill and should be free of misguided laws.
