Dead Button

1. When a player leaves the table as the button is moved to his spot on the table with the button being placed on his or her empty seat.

Example

Often in tournaments, the player in the small blind will go all in and lose, and therefore there is nobody there to take the button. The dealer would then place the button as a "dead button" on the empty seat."
