Buy the Pot

1. To make a large bet, usually as a bluff, that is unlikely to be resisted by other players to win a pot.

Players will "buy the pot" when they see that there's no action and players in the hand aren't keen on winning. Players, with or without a hand, will make a strong bet to simply scoop up the dead money.
