Disconnect Protection

word type: noun

  1. A tool for online poker that protects players in the event that their internet connection dies and allows the hand to be played out as-is without betting from your connected opponent.

Abuse

The Disconnect Protection feature has been widely abused on many sites to the point where some sites have gotten rid of it altogether. Sites typically give a player only 2 all in protections in their entire lives as a safeguard against abuse.

A player can abuse this feature is when they are beat (and know they are beat) and only can draw out on another player but need to do so without committing any more chips. The opponent would bet the turn and then this abuser would disconnect. The opponent's turn bet would be returned and the hand would play out. Players are highly encouraged to report examples of abuse which could lead to a ban of the abuser at the poker room.
